Solana V1 Upgrade Exposes Unpatched Infrastructure to Silent Fee Failures and RPC Freezes

Solana infrastructure operators face silent application failures and network reader freezes if they fail to update before the v1 transaction upgrade hits mainnet. The incoming v1 format increases maximum transaction payloads from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. Because v1 moves compute-unit limits and priority fees into a new transactionConfig object, unpatched indexers will read a zero compute budget without throwing any errors. Sponsors and relayers that enforce fee caps by scanning legacy ComputeBudget instructions will lose their binding caps entirely. While this represents an application-control failure rather than a core consensus flaw, systems missing the update will either permanently stop advancing slots or leak financial resources by running with absent resource limits.
